A female IT professional was killed after being run over by a bus from Akash Paribahan on Pragati Sarani in Badda, Dhaka. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Irene, was an employee at a financial technology company named Next Venture. The police have seized the bus involved in the incident.
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning (October 9) in front of the Fuji Trade Center. Following the incident, employees of the company gathered at the site and began protesting by blocking the road, leading to severe traffic congestion in the Pragati Sarani area. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Gulshan Traffic Division, Zia Uddin Ahmed, confirmed the incident.
According to ADC Ahmed, the accident took place in front of the Fuji Trade Center, where Irene was crushed under the wheels of the Akash Paribahan bus, and she died at the scene. The bus has since been impounded. The protest by company employees has resulted in vehicles being diverted to a single lane from Rampura to Jamuna Future Park, causing traffic delays. Efforts are being made to restore normal traffic flow, and the situation is expected to improve once the protesters disperse.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Abbas from Badda Police Station informed the media that the accident happened around 9 AM. Although the bus was seized, the driver and helper were not found at the scene. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
